I practice Core Shamanism, as developed by Michael Harner, anthropologist and founder of the Foundation for Shamanic Studies. This consists of the universal, near universal and common features of shamanism, together with journeys to other worlds, a distinguishing feature of shamanism. Core shamanism principles are not bound to any specific cultural group or perspective.

Shamanism is thought to be the world's oldest spiritual practice. It is not a religion. A lot of shamanic tradition and practices around the world were lost centuries ago due to religious and political oppression. Shamanic healing methods have been used for healing and problem solving for thousands of years across all inhabited continents and a wide variety of cultures, because they work. It has been the experience of the Foundation for Shamanic Studies that the shamanic state of consciousness is part of our biological and spiritual design.

With over Fifty years of working with indigenous peoples and research into various shamanic tribal practices throughout the world, Michael Harner became aware of many similar shamanic outlooks and practices embedded within otherwise very different shamanic cultures. He referred to these universal, near universal and common features of shamanism, together with journeys to the other worlds, a distinguishing feature of shamanism, as Core Shamanism.

I work only with compassionate, helping spirits, whose realms are outside of space and time. Through the "shamanic journey" I am able to make direct contact with these spirits to bring forth healing, knowledge, and wisdom.

These ancient methods continue to be alive today because they truly work! The spirits are real and want to help ease pain and suffering. The spirits do the healing, the shamanic practitioner is the vehicle or "hollow bone". It is a sacred partnership.
